Gauge: 16 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette on 4 ½mm needle 

Suggested needles:
3 ½ mm (40 cm) & 4 ½ mm(60 cm) circular needle + double pointed needles, unless you are working with magic loop.
